AVAILABLE WORK

My paintings are all inspired by dynamic colour - in bright flowers, Nova Scotian sunsets, local landscapes and the Atlantic Ocean. By using vibrant colours and bold strokes, my work reflects an exaggerated, painterly style - one that I hope conveys what I am both seeing and feeling.

The following available paintings were created for my 2016 solo art show "Resident".

My paintings below were created as part of a group show during my residency at Arts, Letters & Numbers, in Averill Park, New York in 2015. The show was titled "CASSIOPEIA (CONSTELLATION)". Myself, along with 9 other artists from Russia, Iceland, Australia and the US, created paintings, sculptures, spoken word presentations and installations around the concept of a group or cluster of related objects or qualities.

Story I & Story II / 2015 - Each 12"x 12" x 1.5" / Acrylic on Canvas

$375 each / $725 for set

Available at Bear River Artworks Gallery, Bear River NS

The paintings show connections from the past and present. Each painting shows a representation of a constellation - Cepheus in Story I and Andromeda in Story II - both contributors to the story of Cassiopeia, combined with images from my residency - "The House" in Story I, where we all connected at night, and "The Mill" in Story II, where we all worked together during the day.

These two paintings would be the catalyst for my solo show.

After my residency, I continued to be interested in the concepts of connection and how over the course of centuries we've continued to create stories to help us understand the world around us and how we fit in to this world together. Even with the advancement of science, we continue to reflect back to ancient ideas and religious stories for answers regarding connection. After reading "The Seven Brief Lessons on Physics" by Carlo Rovelli, I also became interested in the fact that we are all connected at a cellular level, regardless of our created connections.

The following paintings depict local landmarks representing specific groups -  the Église Sainte-Marie Catholic Church in Church Point, NS, the clock at the former Cornwallis Military Base, in Cornwallis Park, NS and a local home, featuring a widow's peak, commonly found in the area, where it is told that fishermen's wives in coastal communities would watch for their husbands to return from the sea - painted next to constellations with traits reflective of the communities created.

From the pages of "The Seven Brief Lessons on Physics" by Carlo Rovelli:

"A handful of elementary particles, which vibrate and fluctuate constantly between existence and nonexistance
and swarm in space, even when it seems that there is nothing there, combine together to infinity like there is nothing there,

combine together to infinity like the letters of a cosmic alphabet to tell the innumerable stars; of sunlight; of mountains,

woods and fields of grain; of the smiling faces of the young at the parties;and of the night sky studded with stars."
